Back Carrying with the Boba 2G
The video below shows my gorgeous toddler model and I adopting a safe and comfortable back carry with the Boba 2G (complete with excitable dog in the bottom of the screen who relates sling wearing to dog-walking 😉 ).
The first carry shows the hip scoot method of getting her on my back and the second shows the superman lift which as you’ll see, she loves! Although I am using a Boba 2G in the video, the principes are the same for other SSC’s too.
Happy to answer any questions on this so please leave a comment or query at the bottom.
Happy back carrying!

Femmecup – a Review
Let’s start at the beginning. What is Femmecup? Simply put, it is a reusable sanitary product designed to be worn internally. It is made from silicone and collects menstrual fluids rather than absorbs. Grossed out? Good. You’re about where I was when I first heard about it.
When I took over Nappy Days, I was reluctant to take Femmecup with me. The very idea of a reusable sanitary product made me shudder if I’m honest and I was extremely cynical about it. I thought it seemed like a faff to have to remove it and empty it out and about and didn’t see how it could work at night. So what’s a girl to do? of course I tried it.
I’d like to say at this point that I didn’t want to review this after just one month so I am writing this review after the third month of use.
So when Aunt Flo (AF) arrived and I had made the decision to use the Femmecup I was filled with a feeling of dread. I was terrified of not being able to put it in properly or of it leaking everywhere horribly.  Anyway, off I trotted with instructions in hand. Seemed simple enough and the cup was much smaller than I expected once out of the box which reassured me somewhat. I followed instructions and was back on track in a snap surprised at how easy that part had been.
I will admit that even at this stage I was still dubious. I was concerned about mess mainly. Mess at all stages, taking it out (would it spill?), leaking, cleaning, reinserting etc etc.
Eight hours later (yes eight hours!) I remembered I was wearing it and thought I should probably empty it and start again. I was surprised to find that I’d had not a single leak in that time. But more than that, I usually suffer with pretty miserable cramping and for some reason, since using the Femmecup, I’d experienced very little hence the forgetting about it.
So on to night time. I went to bed feeling anxious about moving around too much – the mess again… When I woke in the morning I rushed to the bathroom fearing the worst and found… nothing! So by this point it’s official, I am in love with the Femmecup.
Month two, I figured I was an old pro and was for the first time in as long as I can remember NOT dreading the dreaded AF arriving. A few days before I sterilised my Femmecup and popped it into its little drawstring bag and started carrying it around with me. On first signs I started wearing it and again it was great. I noticed the first time I put it in this month that it wasn’t positioned properly and I had to start again but it was easily rectified and month two passed without event.
Month three… see month two.
In conclusion, I can honestly say that I am a convert and I never thought I would be. I took them on because I was told they were a good seller and as with everything else I retail, I felt I couldn’t sell it not knowing about it. I’m so very pleased I took the plunge and am just left with the question… why didn’t I discover this sooner?
If you are a sceptic even after reading this, drop me an email at info@petitpoppet.co.uk and if you’re willing to give a review I will supply you with a Femmecup of your own at a special 20% discounted rate*!
*Only first five people to email will qualify and must be willing to provide review for blog post/website use (can be anonymous)
Points mean mirrors
Carrying your baby in a back carry in your baby sling can be extremely liberating and frees up not only your hands but pretty much your movement in general. I find myself frequently reaching for the sling of late and throwing Ellen on my back just so I can get the car packed up, get my makeup on and get out of the house.
The only problem with back carries is that when you’re on your own, it can be hard to tell if they’ve drifted off. Also, I miss seeing her face after a short while. As a solution, I have had a keyring mirror created that you can easily attach to your sling with something like a Toy Tie which you can use like a rear view mirror to check on your little one as they cosy in on your back.
“How do I get my hands on one?” I hear you cry? Simple! Join in the game and earn yourself some points. Once you have reached 100 points, email me to let me know and I will get your mirror out to you.
The points
Recruiting a ‘liker’ to the Petit Poppet facebook page – 10 points (for each new ‘liker’!)
Posting a link to the Petit Poppet site on your blog – 10 points (for each link)
Posting a permanent link to Petit Poppet on your webpage – 40 points
Buying a sling – 50 points
Offering to hand out flyers and business cards to baby groups/classes – 20 points
Joining Slingtalk and reaching 20 posts – 20 points
Submitting a review to Petit Poppet – 20 points
Submitting an action shot of you babywearing to Slingtalk or Petit Poppet – 20 points (for each new picture)
So, get point gathering and keep me updated here with your progress! I look forward to giving away all these keyrings in no time!
Pimp my blog
Seriously…. I currently have the dullest looking blog I’ve ever seen! Hopefully the content is enough that people want to come back but as it’s the end of term, time is precious even more than normal and my blog is sadly (yet again) neglected.
So, if even I can’t find the time to come here, how can I expect other people to do so?
All ideas big or small are welcome whether they be motivational, plug-in suggestions, fancy clothes for my blog, whatever you like I’m yours!
And please come back and read again 😦
Sex, boobs and babies
Yes, believe it or not I spent nearly my entire teaching day talking about the afore-mentioned subjects with my class of 9/10 year olds today. We had a maths lesson in the middle of this lot which they protested wildly about.
We began the ‘sex’ part of our Sex and Relationship Education (SRE) today and the title of the lesson was puberty. The idea was that I would explain twelve statements related to changes that occur during puberty and they would sort them Venn diagram style into things that happen to boys, girls or both. We didn’t get past the first five before we had veered wildly off topic. I’ll give the children their due, they started out as to be expected, giggling and looking mortified because their teacher said the S.E.X word. Then they declared me an expert in SRE as I have ‘just had a baby’ and maturity and inquisitiveness took over.
Our day took us on a journey that heard us debating issues such as breast versus bottle, breastfeeding in public, homebirth, teenage pregnancy, STD’s and the use of the female form in advertising. I warned you – wildly off topic!
The interesting part for me was that this was the first time teaching SRE since having my baby and it gave me a whole new angle on it. Some of the children were actually asking me for my experiences which has never happened before and while I thought it would be mortifying (I may as well have been wearing a sandwich board saying I’VE HAD SEX!), it was surprisingly wonderful to be sharing it with them. Obviously there were no gory details or scary bits included but the girls wanted to know a.) does having sex hurt? b.) does having a baby hurt? and c.) does breastfeeding hurt? It was nice to be able to talk to them about something that has been recently so important to me and I was astounded at how astute they were. They confidently asked very pertinent questions and considered my responses carefully. We all had a wonderful day and I really feel I have left them today having taught them something that actually matters.
In the world of Ellen, she is teething molars hence my lack of blog posting. Evenings are traumatic and the drool is a wonder to behold. I sent her to nursery today in a bandana bib from Nappy Days stock and when I collected her they were raving about them so am pleased I know I have a fab product on board!
In Petit Poppet news, I was delighted to reveal on the facebook page last night that we are now a Hoppediz stockist. The biggest problem this is presenting me with is what to start with stock wise – the woven wraps and ring slings come in so many beautiful colourways I am simply unable to choose. You can help by visiting the site and letting me know which your favourite 4.6 wraps, 2.5 wraps and ring slings are.
Three weeks til the summer holidays… roll on freedom!
It's happening again…
I have been neglecting my blog again…Â Yes I feel bad but there just aren’t enough hours in the day sometimes.
As you may already know, I have recently bought a new business. Nappy Days is a site selling a wide range of modern, washable nappies and offers support and advice to anyone thinking of trying real nappies or indeed, already using them. I’m currently spending my days perusing the web and sourcing new suppliers to compliment the existing ranges. Wee Notions are on board as are MotherEase with lots more to come. If you have a brand or product you would like to see Nappy Days stocking then please leave a comment with details. I want Nappy Days to be your shop, so feel free to make all the requests you like!
The site will be live very soon so watch this space!
In the meantime it’s back to the school reports… they WILL be finished tonight and then freedom will once more be mine!
